Mastering Self-Deception: My Excuse to Acquire an iPad Air
The Fine Line Between Want and 'Need' in the Gadget Age
Our family has a plethora of gadgets, including mobile phones, tablets, and notebooks using different brands and operating systems. I won't count devices like the SPARCStation 5 or the Commodores at home. I've never been fond of large tablets, but the smaller iPad Air (M1) caught my attention. I knew I didn't need it. Yet, I continued to wait for new models, fully aware that I didn't need them.
At work, I use multiple monitors, and a revelation struck me while sitting with an Apple notebook in a hotel on a trip: “Voila!” I need the iPad Air as a portable second monitor! For instance, when working on a document during a conference call, it's incredibly practical. So, I succumbed and bought the iPad Air, along with the pencil and the costly Magic Keyboard at an Apple Store.
Returning to the hotel, I tried the notebook and iPad combo and was initially thrilled. However, a new issue arose. I realized the iPad Air + Magic Keyboard weighed more than the notebook itself! I returned to the Apple Store to get the lighter Apple cover, aiming to reduce the overall weight. This experience made me reflect on Apple's ethos: Think different Perhaps, Apple should embrace their mantra more thoroughly, not just their customers.
I am content with my decision, but this revelation about the weight underscores a crucial point: there's a distinct difference between reviews confined by general writers or AIs and those born from genuine, personal experience.
